Feel free to come even if you don't go to PLHS, I have no problem with this. Does anyone actually have Call of Duty? Somebody volunteered to bring it but I haven't seen that guy since so I haven't been able to ask him about it.

I'm thinking I may cut out COD because I sure as heck don't want to bring my PS3 again. That thing is really freaking heavy and I still haven't found that chord. Eh, I'll think of something.
Haha, I totally forgot what the guy's name was. I'm not so good with names.

We should try to quiet down....if that were possible. and my goodness, I was starving. There was no food today. ¯^¯. Brawl Corner. A couple friendlies, and then all out 4 way brawls. Gar. I don't like Miller's JP contoller. It flicks the other way. so I fire my stuff wrong. But no Toms. Just some basic laugh our head off moments. and the last match. We did a switcher 4 way match. Tony decided to trade characters, so I was Bowzer and he was ROB. Then a Diddy and Kirby. Kirby and Diddy got eliminated. Then Tony recieves a Fsmash. rofl. Food: NONE. OMG. D: Next Week.....THERE IS NONE. HAPPY THANKSGIVING BREAK. <3 - o-o How did you know that. Mia.

We were supposed to play DDR and Call of Duty this week. Well that didn't work. I exlained this to a couple people, but I was up until 3 in the morning thursday night writing a speech right after getting back from a concert and was exhausted and didn't get my PS2 out. Yup, there's my excuse if anyone asks why this week was particularly poorly organized.
By the way, Ratchet and Clank wasn't planned AT ALL. The guy brought his own system, game and brought in the TV, so I let him do whatever the heck he wanted.
In two weeks it's Pokemon day. We'll have Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2, and you are encouraged to bring your DS/ gameboy. Bring your own link cables if you want to use an advance or color. Brawl corner will continue as normal.
I CLEARLY didn't look it up on your introduction thread. *shifty eyes*

I seriously need to suggest that while playing Pokemon we implement a sleep clause (only one Pokemon on the opponent's team may be asleep at a time) at least. Double Team would be a good ban too. One of the most annoying things you can do in Pokemon is lose to luck instead of skill, and using double team makes the battle a luck-fest instead of a battle of skill. It's also never fun to have a Pokemon put to sleep, and you switch it out only to be hit by another sleep move. Those Pokemon are now essentially useless, and will only be killed because they can't do anything else with them but buy time. (Giving your opponents free turns in Diamond and Pearl is DEATH. It only takes one turn for Garchomp to switch in, and one turn to use Swords Dance, and after that Garchomp wins unless for massive luck. Garchomp was banned to ubers...but you see my point.) I would also like to play with the "Standard" teir list because things in the uber teir are overpowering.

Alright, we'll definately establish some rules before we begin, so that means no running off and starting things before we've made anouncements... which has happened every single week and we're just too lazy to tell people to shut up for announcements. If anyone else has any concerns about the rules, make them known, but for the most part it's anything goes. As for tiers, those who are familiar with the tier lists can work that out amongst themselves.

I thought that since Pokemon was the focus for this Friday, I would write something about competitive battling.
This will serve as merely an introduction. Pokemon can be a simple game, or a game of numbers and complexity. If you read this I'll assume you want to take your Pokemon to the next step to make them better than they were if you didn't already know this stuff. If you like thinking of Pokemon as little critters you you raise with love and friendship, leave this thread now. I also was very simplistic and skipped over a few things in my ignorance, neglegence, or laziness.
With regards to stats: HP is calculated by this formula: HP = ((2 * BaseStat + IV + (EV / 4)) * Level / 100 + Level + 10)
Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed are calculated by this formula: Stat = (((2 * BaseStat + IV + (EV / 4)) * Level / 100 + 5) * Nature)
Base stat: Each Pokemon has a specific base stat for each stat. The base stat cannot be altered and will always determine the maximum or minimum capability of a Pokemon.
Level: The Pokemon level. Considering you're going to be fighting other people, you want level 100.
IVs: Individual values. These things are determined as soon as you meet the Pokemon. An IV is a value from 0 to 31. The higher the IV, the better. Unless you're very obsessive compulsive, don't worry about these to much. There's so little you can do about them that it doesn't matter.
EVs: Effort Values. You get these by beating other Pokemon and roughly 4 EVs = 1 stat point at level 100. You can have a total of 510 EVs on one Pokemon and 255 Evs in one stat.
Nature: The nature determines what stats get a boost and which stats get dropped. Natures raise and lower stats by 10%. Here is what each nature does: Adamant: raise attack, lower Special attack Bashful: nothing Bold: raise defense, lower attack brave: raise attack, lower speed calm: raise special defense, lower attack careful: raise special defense, lower special attack Docile: nothing gentle: raise special defence, lower defence Hardy: nothing hasty: raise speed, lower defence impish: raise defence, lower special attack jolly: raise speed, lower special attack lax: raise defence, lower special defence Lonely: raise attack, lower defense mild: raise special attack, lower defense modest: raise special attack, lower attack naive: raise speed, lower special defense naughty: raise attack, lower speed quiet: raise special attack, lower speed quirky: nothing rash: raise special attack, lower special defense relaxed: raise defense, lower speed sassy: raise special defense, lower speed serious: nothing timid: raise speed, lower attack
Pokemon placement: Tiers. Each Pokemon is placed in a tier, and the tiers are such: Uber: ban list for standard play. A tier based solely on power Over used: also known as standard. What people ussually play. Based on usage. Borderline: a ban list for the Under used tier. Based on power. Under used: a tier of Pokemon people rarely see in standard battles. Determined by usage. "limbo": This zone has no official name, but it is the ban list for never used. Based on power Neverused: the tier of the lowest of the low. Everything not in a tier above this tier.
With regards to pokemon roles: Ussually on a competitive team each Pokemon will serve a role, or special function on the team. Roles include:
staller: slows down the opponent and deals damage slowly with moves like toxic, spikes, stealth rock, roar, will o' wisp, and thunder wave
annoyer: The only purpose this really serves is to annoy your opponent. Usually by being faster, and being able to inflict a status on your opponent. Two statuses is better.
Wall: a pokemon meant to only sit in play and take damage from the opponent. Walls can be physical (defence and attack,) special (special defence and special attack,) or mixed (a little of both). Walls usually fix a weakness of a team to certain attacks.
sweeper: a Pokemon meant to take out many Pokemon in an offensive manner. sweepers can be physical, special, or mixed. sweepers usually carry a wide varity of types in their moveset to better cover what they face, and sometimes carry a stat boosting move (like swords dance) to elevate their sweeping capabilities.
Boomer: a Pokemon that uses explosion or self-destruct
Baton Passer: A Pokemon that will raise its stats with moves like swords dance and double team, then use the move baton pass to give the boosts to another Pokemon. Ninjask is a good example of this.
Wish passer: a Pokemon that uses wish to heal other Pokemon in the party.
Cleric: a Pokemon who uses aromatherapy or heal bell to cure statuses of your party.
Lead: The first Pokemon of your party and the first in battle. Usually used to set up your team strategy.
A few generaly accepted rules by the competitive battling community are: Sleep clause: Only one Pokemon on a team may be asleep at the same time. If one Pokemon is already asleep the move to induce sleep fails. This is harder to implement with cratridge to cartridge play, but generaly this is something you should adhear to when playing. Evasion Clause: No double team, minimize, or any move to boost your evasion. Freeze clause: No more than one Pokemon may be frozen at a time. Species clause: No more than one Pokemon of the same species may be on a team at the same time. (example: You may not have two Charizards on the same team) Timed Battle: You have 5 minutes to make your move. If you take more time to make your move in battle less time is alocated to you to make future moves.
So: here's an example I wanted to make, but decided I was to lazy and wanted to play something else. Lead: Tyranitar. EVs: 100 Hp 252 spd, 158 atk. Nature: Adamant. Item: Leftovers. Moves: Earthquake, Dragon Dance, Stone Edge, and Crunch Sweeper: Garchomp. Evs: 4 Hp 252 Spd 252 Atk. Nature: adamant. Item: Yache Berry. Moves: Earthquake, Fire Fang, Dragon Claw, Swords Dance Sweeper: Metagross. Evs: 100 Hp 252 Atk 158 Spd. Nature: Adamant. Item: Leftovers. Moves: Agility, Metoer Mash, Earthquake, Explosion Special Wall: Cradily. Evs: 158 Hp 100 Def 252 Special Defence. Nature: careful. Item: Leftovers/ Moves: Toxic, stealth rock, rock slide, recover Staller/physical wall: Hippowdon. Evs: I didn't think of this. Nature: Impish. Item: Leftovers. Moves: Stealth rock, roar, earthquake, slack off sweeper: Heatran. Evs: 4 hp 252 special attack 252 speed. Nature: Rash. Item: Choice scarf. Moves: Fire Blast, Earth Power, Explosion, (something else)
I didn't quite finish it, but it gives you an idea of what to do while making a competitive team.

Alright, here's what I'm thinking we'll do.
For the stadium games, it's anything goes. ANYTHING. These pokemon all have preset levels and moves anyway, and you may not register any pokemon from gameboy cartridges as we want to have as much time as possible to play.
For gameboy/DS tournaments, I'll set everyone into groups by levels. It's not fun if you're ridiculously outmatched so we'll split everyone into groups going by about 10-20 levels. For these, the sleep and freeze clauses apply as well as the timed battle rule. You may have one pokemon from the uber tier or more if you're opponent agrees to such. I'll put a list of these pokemon on the board for everyone.
That seem about right? I don't want to have too many rules, I just want to set this up so that it's fun for everyone.
We may need one more N64 but I'm not entirely sure. If somone would like to volunteer to be a backup and give me their email adress, that'd be great. I'm not sure if we'll need one, both Jordyn and Stephanie volunteered theirs but they're not sure if it is physically possible to bring them.
Brawl corner will continue as usual, but somone's gotta use a pokemon in each battle! XD Oh, and we'll be bringing pokeball cookies.

I can provide a N64. I'll drop it off, when I am on my way to Ecology Club. Should I provide a Pokemon Stadium game? and 2 controllers? (One of the controllers is sort of funny. It's not like a N64. But it works on the console).

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! I feel bad for asking, but I don't really have another way of obtaining one. :/ And we have the games but we could use the controllers. Thanks again! ^.^
