It makes me sad to see a site that hardly understands the importance of Melee while playing brawl.
Lets look at most of the brawl pros that are out there. I'd say that most people that are winning in brawl tournies or at least placing in the money are/were melee pros (and think about the possibilites had they a lot not retired). Because I'm a Lucario main my favorite example is Azen. He played every character in melee basically at a very high level (think isai in 64, but towards the end of MLG tounaments there were like 5 isais).
Furthermore, for two games that are very similar in design. Knowing how to do one can very well prepare you for the other. This works both ways really. Playing brawl made me realize that honor can go suck a fat one and I should only do stuff that can help me win and thus my playing style should be about eliminating mistakes. Melee gives you fast hands, lets you work on many techs that make brawl feel relaxing, which puts you back into the first benefit. Thus, at least for me, the games complement each other fairly well in terms of helping out my style of play and making me able to react faster.
So, why does this random guy from st louis park give a damn about having PLS play some melee? 3 reasons:
1. I want to see you get better so that ya'll can come up here and make some money and maybe get your name out there
2. I want to beat you in it, yeah, that's right. I think i can take any of you on in melee and in that sense, I'm probably a really sadistic person.
3. If I go down there, I want a better competition from more people. I'm down for taking some MMs (money matches) for anybody that wants to play and make a little money off me ( is he attempting reverse psychology?)
4. Melee is an awesome game, it's more balanced (which is a testament to brawl more than anything really), more competitive, more fun to watch, and actually possesses a learning curve outside of knowing a matchup.
And that brings up another thing. Why do brawl people make it sound like knowing the matchup is a new thing? If anything knowing the matchup was more important in melee because you had about half the time to actually think of your counter move and if you got hit, chances are it either A. Hurt more or B. Led to a combo (lol, what's that?).
That's all i gotta say...i would post this in a melee section.... , but that's kinda difficult to do and i figured that random was the only other suitable place for this.
