Right. So a niche is a special role a lifeform has in an environment. Kirby has a special niche that many noobs will initially pick up on with Kirby before outgrowing it and moving to another character, or just improving past it. The niche strategy is this:
A) Fly up in the air
B) Fall down on the opponent's heads with a massive stone
Essentially a hit-and-run. It appeals to noobs because they seem invincible with the stone. Many things can counter this strategy, however.
-Air assults
-Anti-aerial attacks
-Grabs
-Shield
Since all character can shield and grab, I will not cover those options. I will focus on the speciallized options to counter it.
Air assults: Characters that can get up in Kirby's face as he flies over the stage. Characters with many or obscenely good jumps. Chracters that can use this strategy to counter well are:
-Meta Knight
-Charizard
-King Dedede
-Pit
-Falco (he's got ups)
-Jigglypuff
-Rob (use Up-B, attack, use Up-B)
-Kirby, I suppose
Anti-aerial attacks: These are attacks that encourage Kirby to not fly above a character. Attacks like:
-Snake's mortar
-Ivysaur's Bullet Seed
-Pikachu's Thunder
-Zero Suit Samus's Plasma Whip (Up-B. along with a healthy dose of "GET OVER HERE!")
-Ike's Aether
Every character can shield and grab. You need to wait for Kirby to fall on top of you first though. I also recommend you make this harder in the first place by running around erratically, roll and step dodging, and jumping with some air dodges.
A mental adjustment might also be needed to fight the niche strategy. Kirby will draw his power in this strategy from the air, and if you can keep him "earthbound" (hah, pun) then he will not be able to use his strategy at all.
